Gomorra (REHBELLEN)
Gomorra is a passionate DJ and producer from Basel, Switzerland.
As an 8 year old boy playing the drums he realised that music might play a bigger role in his future life. After a while, he got his hands on the first pair of turntables and started to experiment with mixing HipHop music. Experiencing a broad variety of music and nightlife culture during those formative years he developed a deeper interest for driving rhythms and repetitive patterns. Soon he got pulled into the pulsating scene that emerged nearly 30 years ago in an industrial and rough urban area at the shore of lake Michigan well known as Detroit, the Motor City. As he already made his first steps in music production while digging HipHop, the obvious development then was to exchange the MPC with Synths and Drum Machines and explore the aesthetics of Techno on a much more profound level.
His love for Techno with a typical „Detroit twist“ goes hand in hand with his love for viny and its acoustic qualities and already at an early stage Gomorra decided to only play the black gold in his DJ Sets. One of his biggest influences was and still is the pulsating Techno culture in Berlin and especially its legendary and mystical church Berghain/Panorama Bar.
With the music and lifestlye label „Rehbellen“ run by Gomorra and some long time friends, they adopted this whole dark Techno vibe from Germanys capital city and are now defining and pushing forward an own scene in Basel, Switzerland.
As a DJ Gomorra started as a resident in the nightclub „Lady Bar“ where he was given the freedom and faith to experiment and find his own style of Techno and to refine his craft as a DJ.
It was only a matter of time until Gomorras musical and technical progression drew the Nordstern nightclub bookers’ attention to his qualities as a DJ and sonic storyteller. So Nordstern, a cultural institution in Basel existing for over fifteen years now, became his new home as a resident and the space to take his vision of Techno onto a whole new level. During his residency at the club he already shared the decks with artists like Freddy K, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, DVS1, Len Faki, Marcel Fengler, Function, Ryan Elliott, Kobosil, Answer Code Request, Chris Liebing, Nina Kraviz, Monoloc, Rebekah, Robert Hood, Vril, Bas Mooy, UVB, Francois X, Fiedel and others that nowadays define the sound of Techno.
