This September see’s Markantonio debut on Rino Cerrone’s Unrilis imprint with the two tracker, “Dott. Pepper”. Much like Rino Cerrone himself, Markantonio has become one the lynchpins of the Italian, and more specifically Neapolitan, techno scene in the past 12 years. His Analytic Trail has become a must-check imprint with an artist roster that boasts the likes of Joseph Capriati, Davide Squillace, Flavio Diaz and Paco Osuna in it’s back catalogue. With the first track of this EP, “Dott. Pepper”, the veteran producer heads straight for the jugular with urgent, building hats topping a simple yet devastatingly effective groove. Punctuated with oddball sounds and delivered via a crafty arrangement with a firm emphasis on epic builds and drops. No holds are barred with the b-side cut, ‘Step One’, either. A sharp, angular groove with cutting hats pair up with a fast, staccato bassline littered with subtle, rhythmic sounds throughout. The overall effect is slightly more brutal than it’s counterpart, which makes for a nicely rounded release. More fantastic work from one of Italys finest!
