Unrilis is an Italian record label co-founded by Rino Cerrone, and its new release is a raw and jackin’ techno EP from, Man With No Shadow. Alongside two solo originals, there is also a collaboration with Kamara, and a remix by JSPR. Man With No Shadow is a Dutch artist known for his dynamic, groove-driven style. His latest works infuse feisty percussion and playful loops with deeper layers of emotion, showcasing an energetic and engaging approach coined as his ‘A Positive Take on Techno’. He has released music on labels ranging from Tronic to Drumcode, and the timeless tracks on this EP have machine-funk at their core. Collaborating on one of the tracks is Kamara, who are a live act and production duo from Holland. They have also produced music with the likes of Ken Ishii, and released their analogue sound via labels such as Radio Slave’s RSPX. On remix duty, JSPR completes the trio of Dutch artists who feature on this release. His sound layers gritty drums and modulating synths to create immersive tracks that are aimed at the dance floor. This remix is similar to the music he has released on labels like Truncate and his own, Barbaric Recordings. “Fireee” is the EP’s title track and a solo production by Man With No Shadow. Its warping bassline and trippy vocal phrases build tension as the throbbing groove unfolds. “Q&A” is the second solo composition, and it’s got dubby pads layered with fizzing analogue percussion. “Cricket” is the collaboration with Kamara, and it’s got the digitised tones of pitched percussion layered with bleeping synth textures. JSPR closes the release with his remix of “Q&A” that adds gritty breakbeats to the original’s dubby synth parts.
